Wine cellars are more than just storage spaces—they’re sanctuaries for wine enthusiasts, designed to preserve their collection in perfect condition. At Forever Green Windows, we specialise in creating high-performance uPVC double-glazed windows and doors that offer the insulation, durability, and style required for these unique spaces.
Recently, we partnered with Enviro Renovations and Solace Creations on an exciting wine cellar project. The goal was to convert a small room into a temperature-controlled space using a custom-made set of French doors manufactured in our Gregory Hills facility.
Here’s a closer look at the project and why uPVC is the ultimate choice for wine cellars.
Project Spotlight: Converting a Room into a Wine Cellar
This wine cellar transformation started with a small room that needed to be enclosed to maintain an even temperature—critical for wine preservation. The team at Envirorenovations expertly framed the wall and installed double-glazed French doors manufactured by Forever Green Windows.
Here’s how the process unfolded:
- Precision Framing and Alignment
Envirorenovations used a laser line to align the new wall with the existing walls of the room. They carefully projected the laser line across the space, ensuring precision. After cutting away the plasterboard, they marked the floor, cut it to accommodate the doors, and framed the opening for a perfect fit. - Door Installation
A set of custom-made French doors, manufactured at our Gregory Hills warehouse, was installed. These uPVC double-glazed doors were designed to keep the wine cellar’s temperature stable and insulated. The flush installation of the doors was seamless, ensuring both functionality and a polished aesthetic. - Finishing Touches
Envirorenovations added architraves and completed the details, blending the wine cellar seamlessly with the rest of the home. The result was a beautiful, functional space that perfectly supports the preservation of the client’s wine collection.
Why uPVC is Perfect for Wine Cellars
When it comes to wine cellars, the environment must be meticulously controlled to preserve your collection. uPVC double-glazed doors offer a range of benefits that make them the ideal choice:
1. Temperature Control
uPVC frames and double-glazed glass provide exceptional insulation, helping maintain a consistent temperature inside the wine cellar. The compression sealing on our French doors ensures an airtight fit, preventing any fluctuations that could affect your wine.
2. Energy Efficiency
uPVC’s energy-efficient properties minimise the effort required by climate control systems, reducing energy usage and keeping costs down while maintaining the ideal environment for your wine.
3. Moisture Resistance
Humidity control is critical in wine storage, and uPVC is inherently resistant to moisture. Unlike wood, which can warp or rot, uPVC ensures durability and longevity, even in high-humidity environments.
4. Light Control
Our double-glazed glass options include tinted or Low-E glass, which minimise UV light exposure, protecting your wine from harmful rays that could degrade its quality.
5. Low Maintenance and Durability
uPVC is strong, long-lasting, and requires minimal upkeep. It’s resistant to wear, ensuring your wine cellar doors remain in pristine condition for years.
